Holiday Goodie Bags with Hefty

Tuesday, December 1, 2015

Raise your hand if you are in "full Christmas mode" like me! Now that Thanksgiving has passed, it definitely puts the holiday pressure on. Most of these days I find myself looking at the clock at 9:00 pm wondering where the entire day went.

I'm bustling around my house setting out holiday decor, replying to Christmas party invites, starting my holiday shopping and planning menus. Time is definitely not on my side. In comes these super cute Hefty Holiday Printables!   They are a fun way to add a little pizazz to your storage bag food gifts this holiday season.

I like things as simple as possible, and that includes my holiday "go to" recipes. I always try to have a few extra holiday gifts on hand and Peppermint Puppy Chow is easy, fast and perfect for gift giving.

This recipe contains just a few ingredients (that you may already have in your pantry) and can be fully completed in about 20 minutes. Are you picking up what I'm laying down?........EASY!

Place your Chex Rice cereal in a large bowl and crush your candy canes into tiny pieces. I used one super sized candy cane but one regular size box of candy canes would do the trick. Measure out your powdered sugar so it's ready to go!

Because I was using my Peppermint Puppy Chow for single serve gifts, I divided the powdered sugar equally among four storage bags by adding 1/4 cup to each storage bag.

Melt your white chocolate pieces according to the package directions. I've always used a double boiler and it works perfectly on medium low heat.

Add the melted white chocolate to the cereal, folding it in until all cereal is covered with chocolate. Add in the crushed candy canes and fold until distributed evenly.

Scoop cereal mixture into Hefty Slider bags. Since I was dividing the full recipe among the four single serve bags, I added 1 1/4 cup of the cereal mixture to each bag.

Line up the bags, slide the zipper shut and shake away! Now is the time you definitely want to be using a bag that you're sure is shut. This shaking process can get quite messy if powdered sugar were to go flying everywhere. I love these slider bags because you can "feel" the bag is fully locked when you slide the zipper shut.

I thought these Hefty Printable Templates were just too cute! They allow you to keep the food in it's original bag and add a festive touch. There are three templates to choose from and are free on the Hefty website. No downloading to do, just print straight from your computer.

I folded each template in half, cut off the excess, used a hole punch where indicated on the template and threaded each with a piece of red ribbon. Each template includes a "to & from" area where you can include your recipients name. Hefty has done all the work for us!

How cute are these slider bags filled with Peppermint Puppy Chow? I added a few bags to this homemade holiday gift basket including hot cocoa mix, and festive mini mugs!
We need all the help we can get this time of year and these Hefty Slider bags are a lifesaver!

If you love the original Puppy Chow Chex Mix recipe, I guarantee you will love the peppermint version even more. I made four bags, and let's just say.......only three went into the gift basket. It's that good.
